Young KZN leader makes it into top 100 of Absa Gradstar Awards


– A young KZN man has made it into the top 100 of the ABSA Gradstar programme this year

– Sanele Thwala is a final year psychology student at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth

The Absa GradStar is a programme is one that recognises the top 100 students across the country. The top 100 students need leadership qualities as well as workplace readiness. Absa received over 8000 entries which they choose the top 100 and eventually the 10 of the finest.

Many of the Top 100 recognised students of the Absa Gradstar have received job offers from major employers as a result of being recognized through this program.

1 of the top 100 is Sanele Thwala hailing from Ladysmith in KZN. He is a final year psychology student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in PE. Thwala studies Psychology because he feels that it helps people understand themselves, behaviours and perceptions.

Thwala said he was very happy and honoured to be both recognised and to have made it to the Top 100.

“I had to excel in various attributes that made me stand out of the pack , and not only as a result of my academic capabilities.This was one of my goals I was willing to achieve this year and it happened.”

He added that he is very glad that everything on his new year’s resolution list has been achieved despite the global pandemic.

“It’s been a nerve wrecking experience to compete with exceptional students from various universities for only 100 spots but it is indeed a worthwhile experience.I am also very happy to be one of the students who continuously flies the Nelson Mandela University flag high and embodies excellence as their value.”

In similar news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on a SA student who isset to pursue his dream by studying science communication abroad. Blessing Nemadziva will be flying the South African flag high once he jets off to New Zealand to pursue a science communication qualification next year.

The young man, who currently holds both a BTech and Masters degrees in Biotechnology, realised his passion for writing while completing his biotechnology qualifications at Durban’s University of Technology.

Soon after giving writing a try, Blessing produced a number of literary works for which he is the recipient of various awards. In 2018, the talented young man was awarded the DUT Entrepreneurial Programme Grant towards his work in promoting South African literature through motion pictures.
