Wow, Chris Harrison Reportedly Wanted a $25 Million Payout for ‘Bachelor’ Exit

Chris Harrison has officially parted ways with Bachelor Nation following his inexcusable public defense of Rachael Kirkconnell’s past racist behavior, and new details are emerging about the terms of his exit. Yesterday, Deadline reported that Chris would “receive a rose of his own in the form of mid-range eight-figure payoff and promise to keep his mouth shut.” And according to Page Six, Chris wanted a payout of $25 million, a sum he asked for in exchange for not spilling the franchise’s dirt.

“He has nearly 20 years of dirt,” an ABC source told the outlet. “Instead of handing them a rose, he was absolutely ready to hand them a lawsuit detailing all the behind-the-scenes details.”

The source went onto explain that “Chris Harrison’s whole life was The Bachelor, and he didn’t want to let go. He still is really sad to leave, and there have been very tough and very heated negotiations going on for weeks.”

Apparently ABC execs wanted Chris “gone quickly and quietly,” but “he knows a lot about inappropriate behavior on set: fights between contestants, misbehavior including use of illegal substances while overseas and complaints from producers that were allegedly brushed under the carpet by ABC execs. He was ready to tell the truth about how things really work over there—and he has plenty of evidence to back him up. Chris was making $5 million a season and wanted $25 million to go.”

Page Six reports that a settlement was reached and the final number is “not believed to be as high” as the $25 million Chris asked for, but definitely appears to be pretty massive judging from that Deadline report.

Chris confirmed the news of his exit in an Instagram post yesterday, saying “I’ve had a truly incredible run as host of The Bachelor franchise and now I’m excited to start a new chapter, I’m so grateful to Bachelor Nation for all of the memories we’ve made together. While my two-decade journey is wrapping up, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime.”
