On that beautiful day of 1st August 1958, Our dear mother was born in the commercial city of Onitsha, to the family of Chief and Late Mrs. Christian .M. Nwokedi (Idi Chinyelugo) of Umuozalla kindred, Umuogufebe dynasty of Umunnambu village, Alor, Idemili South, Anambra State. Our mother was the first child and daughter of her parents.
Her primary school education commenced at Central School, Odakpu, Onitsha, where she sat and passed the first school leaving certificate examination with distinction. She then gained admission into Anglican Girls’ Grammar school, Onitsha and obtained her WAEC in flying colours. As a lover of education, she sought for and obtained admission into Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Imo State and did her National Youth Service at Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. She afterwards enrolled into the renowned University of Benin, obtaining her B.Sc. in Banking and Finance. She later enrolled at the nation’s first indigenous university, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, successfully completing M.Ba programme.
Our mother’s first career experience was as a teacher at Ado Girls’ Secondary school, inland town, Onitsha. She later joined the services of the nation’s pioneer banking institution, First Bank of Nigeria PLC where she retired. She later went into private business excelling in so many entrepreneurial fields. Mom was focused, industrious and ambitious. A very diligent lady believing in the saying that ‘it is only in the dictionary that success comes before work’
Our mother was born into an Anglican family and while alive actively participated in so many church activities from her infancy. She always says it loud that JESUS CHRIST was her pillar and the architect of her success and we thank God that mom gave her life to JESUS CHRIST before her transition.
Our DEAR MOTHER’S 62 years sojourn on planet earth ended when her sun set on 29th day of August 2020.We can only give thanks and praises to the most high God for her fruitful life as we all say goodnight because it is not good bye as she slumbers in the bosom of the LORD.
From our dear mother’s life lessons, we derived and deduced that the true value of life is the problem solved, lives saved, smiles put on faces that had given up, futures built selflessly, peace sought, kept and nurtured. Our mother demonstrated that LOVE is a way of life and not just a word and it must be active, joyful and reaching even at oddest of times and difficulties. She insisted that LOVE has no expiry date.
Adieu mama, rest on.
