Economies around the world have been weighed down by the effects of the coronavirus. Sadly, South Africa has felt the financial burden of the pandemic hard and many people have lost their jobs.
A video was posted on Twitter on Thursday by social media user @MmatlouLebogang, allegedly showing staff members getting retrenched at Mercedes.
The heart-wrenching video shows an emotional worker praying for his colleagues, who were all gathered around him in a circle.
@MmatlouLebogang captioned the post:
“This is sad. Retrenchment at Mercedes.”
According to another tweep, @kulanicool, the exact number of workers who were retrenched is 189.
He shared the full prayer in the comment section:
The footage left South Africans heartbroken for the workers:
Twitter user, @poengem, wrote:
“I am in tears, God please cleanse the world off coronavirus. That is my everyday prayer.”
Another tweep, @UmalambaneZN, added:
“This is the reality our country is facing, how do you look at your family when you can no longer provide. It’s heartbreaking.”
Social media user, @katli_borosky, wrote:
“It’s too damn painful. Can’t imagine what life will be like for them, a man not being able to provide his family is a sad sight.”

Meanwhile, earlier Briefly.co.za earlier reported former DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, took a swipe at the ANC after Fikile Mbalula lauded the ruling party for making progress in SA. #ANCFriday trended on Twitter and the minister of transport made a series of tweets in honour of his party.
In one of the posts, Mbalula said the ANC has come a long way over the past years. He wrote:
“We have come a long way, but the road ahead is long and challenging. If we are to succeed, we must redouble our efforts and not rest on our laurels. #ANCFriday.”
The post generated quite the reaction and only reply in particular caught our attention. Mmusi Maimane replied to Mbaweezy’s tweet by saying of the ANC moved forward, it was in the wrong direction.
