Bachelor exes Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell prompted speculation that they’re back together yesterday, when photos of them wandering around Williamsburg emerged on Instagram account @DuexMoi. Oh, and on top of that, Reality Steve tweeted “It’s been a while but here’s some news: Matt and Rachael? Yeah, they’re not over. They’re currently in New York together. FYI.”

So….what’s actually going on? Turns out these two are just friends. A source tells E! News that Matt and Rachael aren’t back together, and that Rachael has been trying to get in touch with Matt, who agreed to see her while she was in NYC visiting friends.
Another source adds that everything Matt said during After the Final Rose still stands, explaining “Rachael and Matt are completely just friends. He has no intentions of dating her in the future.”
As a reminder, Matt broke up with Rachael after photos of her attending a racist antebellum-themed plantation party in 2018 appeared online. He spoke about the split on ATFR with Emmanuel Acho, saying “If you don’t understand that something like that is problematic in 2018, there’s a lot of me that you won’t understand. It’s as simple as that.”
Matt also told Rachael that when he questioned their relationship, “It was in the context of you not fully understanding my Blackness and what it means to be a Black man in America, and what it would mean for our kids when I saw those things that were floating around the internet.”
Rachael told Matt she still has feelings for him during the conversation, saying she doesn’t “see anyone else out there for me,” while Matt said “the feelings that I had for you don’t go away overnight” and explained “the work and the reconciliation that needs to be done is work I can’t do for you.”
