‘Bridgerton’ Star Nicola Coughlan Reveals a *Major* Easter Egg in the First Episode

Bridgerton is the show everyone is talking about. The drama, the sex, the fashion, and the mystery make it a must-watch. So, if you haven’t watched, you might want to go do that before reading this spoiler-filled article. If you choose to continue reading, well, you can’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, in the Netflix original series revealed an easter egg that you probably missed while watching the show. She was so subtle about it. It happened in the first episode, so who was looking for clues that early on? Not me… admittedly. “Ok I’m just curious, has anyone spotted the massive Easter Egg about Penelope in the very first scene of Bridgerton?” Nicola asked her Twitter followers.

She added that when she filmed Penelope’s first scene, she chose a symbolic prop (a massive feather). Her followers immediately began to guess what that prop looks like. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, I was distracted by a gorgeous smile. Oopsies,” one fan tweeted. Another wrote, “GREAT NOW I HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE SERIES AGAIN.”

Finally, she let everyone in on the secret.

Ah, it makes sense! The feather in her hair looks like the quill that Lady Whistledown uses to write her gossip-filled news. And as we know, Penelope is Lady Whistledown (unless the writers have another plot-twist planned). We’ll just have to wait until season 2 premieres to find out.

In the meantime, I’ll be watching Bridgerton‘s first season to see if there are any other clues I might’ve missed. I’m definitely not re-watching because of the Duke of Hastings. Don’t be ridiculous.

You love all the deets on TV shows. So do we! Let’s overanalyze them together.
