Top Professors at Dartmouth College for Engaging and Knowledgeable Courses

As someone who just graduated with a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) from Dartmouth College, I had the opportunity to engage with many dedicated and knowledgeable professors. Here, I share my experiences with some of the standout instructors who I highly recommend for their courses.

Donald Pease - Cultural Studies

Donald Pease is a professor who stands out due to his extensive knowledge and versatile teaching style. He is an exceptionally skilled moderator of class discussions, making his courses intellectually stimulating. If you have the chance, I would highly recommend taking a course like Cultural Studies. His classes are particularly engaging when the class group is diverse and invested in the discussion. If you're looking for a professor who can spark your intellectual curiosity, Pease is the one to go for.

Anna Minardi - Academic Mentorship

Anna Minardi is a highly supportive professor, especially when it comes to working on academic projects. She offers valuable guidance on course work and is widely respected by her thesis students. If you are taking a course that involves crafting a serious project or if you need a mentor who will guide you through the process, Minardi is an excellent choice. Her personalized feedback and dedication to her students make her an invaluable resource.

James Dobson - Digital Humanities Enthusiast

James Dobson shares some similarities with Donald Pease, known for his intellectual curiosity and depth of knowledge, though he has a more focused digital humanities direction. He provides helpful feedback and is approachable, but he may be more challenging to follow if you are not familiar with basic Computer Science or Liberal Studies concepts. If you are interested in exploring the intersection of technology and humanities, Dobson is a fascinating professor to engage with.

Peter Deshazo - Political and Policy Studies

Peter Deshazo brings a highly relevant professional background to the classroom, making discussions more engaging. His personal experiences often enrich the material he covers. If you are interested in politics, policy, and policy economics, Deshazo is an excellent choice. Prepare yourself for a lot of reading, as he expects a high level of engagement from his students.

Aden Evens - Thesis Advisor

Aden Evens served as my thesis advisor, and the experience was very positive. He was approachable and helpful. While I haven't had the opportunity to take a specific course with him, working on the thesis with him made his intellectual rigor and knowledge very clear. His experience in game studies and game development is particularly relevant if you are interested in these fields. He is an excellent touchpoint for students working on long-term projects.

Stefan Gronas - Slavic Studies Expert

Stefan Gronas is a fantastic professor for those interested in Slavic studies. I TA'd with him for two terms, and he brings a genuine interest to the classroom. He approaches his subject matter in a thoughtful, non-preaching manner and encourages meaningful student discussions. Additionally, his co-teaching with Prof. Aprisyan provides a double benefit, with both instructors being superb in their respective fields.

Andrew McCann - Media and Monstrosity

Andrew McCann is my highlight in terms of specific course material. His course on Media and Monstrosity is a standout. This course puts your brain into a particular mode of thinking that is beneficial for analyzing film, literature, and other media. The course discussion is highly engaging, and the synergy with creative writing and English classes is remarkable.

Eugenie Carabatsos - Writing Instructor

Eugenie Carabatsos is exceptional as a writing instructor, particularly in a workshop format. I highly recommend her playwriting class, but her enthusiasm and attention to detail also make her a standout in other areas. She encourages thorough study of plays and provides thoughtful, well-organized feedback to her students. Her dedication and rigor are clear, contributing to significant growth in my writing skills.

These professors have significantly shaped my academic journey at Dartmouth College, and I believe their expertise and engagement can be a tremendous asset for students who are looking for a enriching and intellectually stimulating educational experience.
