The Latest Trends I Hate: From Jumpsuits to Baby Baptism

As the age-old saying goes, 'The grass is always greener on the other side.' And in today's digital age, various fads and trends emerge quickly and spread like wildfire. While some of them catch on and become beloved, others unfortunately become sources of frustration and annoyance. Here are a few of the latest trends that I truly hate.

The Whatsapp/Facebook Status Greeting Trend

Keyword: whatsapp status, facebook status

There is a pervasive trend that has been around for an unknown duration, yet continues to cause me nothing but irritation. People often share superficial and overly personal statuses on social media, such as wishing their parents a happy birthday or anniversary, or sending personalized messages like 'I miss you' or 'you are the best' to loved ones. What is perplexing about this practice is why individuals chose to share such sentiments on a public platform, especially when the people they are addressing are not even active on the site. In my opinion, it seems counterproductive to seek social media approval over the genuine happiness of a loved one being near them. This does not make sense in the digital age where personal connections are vital.

Super Short Shorts – A Fashion Fad I Can't Stand

Keyword: gym shorts, fad fashion

Fashion trends can bring joy and excitement, but sometimes they become so extreme that it's difficult to enjoy them. One such trend that particularly irks me is men wearing super short shorts at gyms. Around the knee is fine, but seeing men donning shorts that are shorter than my boxers is not my idea of appropriate attire. Despite having decent leg definition from my cardio and leg day workouts, I don't feel inclined to show off my legs in such a revealing manner. It's simply not my style. The fact that some individuals have chosen to publicize this ostentatious display of leg length is puzzling, to say the least.

Baby Baptism Galas – An Overkill on Joy

Keyword: baby baptism, gala

With the arrival of a new baby, joy abounds, and it is understandable and normal to celebrate. However, after attending and receiving countless invitations for baby-doorway galas (they are almost always held in the evening), I have found myself no longer in favor of these events. These galas frequently feature a DJ playing the latest Bollywood numbers, and the strategic placement of the DJ console right next to the stage where the mother and newborn reside often leads to an overbearing and loud atmosphere. The gathering typically consists of numerous attendees who attempt to hold and kiss the baby, which can be overwhelming, especially for a newborn who is just between one to three months old and needs a warm, cozy, and comfortable environment.

It's my firm belief that such lavish celebrations should be reserved for a time when the child is old enough to appreciate the gathering. Instead of promoting this form of celebration, we should focus on providing proper care and a nurturing environment for both the mother and the baby. Growing up, I was an avid fan of baby showers that were more subdued and intimate, allowing the mother to be pampered without the chaos of a gala celebration.

The Jumpsuit Dilemma – A Fashion Item from the Past

Keyword: jumpsuit, fashion downfall

Fashion has a history of reviving old trends, and the jumpsuit is one such item that has become a trend, only to fade again. In my opinion, the jumpsuit is an outdated piece that has seen better days. Although it might have had its moment of glory, I believe there are far better alternatives. The jumpsuit can be exceedingly cumbersome when one needs to use the restroom, especially under the influence of alcohol, as I found out on a particularly memorable 30th birthday brunch. The liquor had me sufficiently inebriated to forget the typical ease of handling the restroom situation, which resulted in a prolonged and challenging bathroom break.

While a jumpsuit can offer some convenience and unity in appearance, it lacks the flexibility and adaptability of a two-piece outfit. A two-piece set, consisting of a shirt and trousers, provides the freedom to mix and match with different elements, allowing for a more personalized and stylish look. Moreover, the jumpsuit can be misshapen around the crotch area, particularly for those with longer torsos and shorter legs, causing an awkward and unflattering fit. Similarly, the side bulges may appear more pronounced in a jumpsuit, leading to additional discomfort. An alternative that combines the elegance of a dress with the versatility of a jumpsuit is the dress, which can make one feel like a goddess without sacrificing comfort or style. The jumpsuit, in my opinion, has outlived its relevance and should be consigned to the fashion graveyard.
