My Journey with COMEDK and College Admission

Every year, thousands of students in South India participate in the Common Engineering and Medical Entrance Examination (COMEDK), a crucial test for securing a place in the state's prestigious engineering and medical colleges. My personal experience with COMEDK, particularly in 2019, serves as a valuable case study for aspiring test-takers.

COMEDK 2016: A Cause for Celebration

Back in 2016, I wrote the COMEDK exam for the very first time with aspirations of securing a spot in the Centre for Science and Technology at MountSusuneth Institute of Technology (MSRIT). With a rank of 1046 that year, I was confident and eventually secured a seat in computer science (CS).

Preparation and Results

After the KCET exam in 2016, I had just ten days to prepare for COMEDK. I knew that my KCET performance was not up to my expectations, so I gave it my all. I consistently scored around 140 in mock tests. The physics section was straightforward, and I tackled the chemistry questions with some confidence, despite not knowing answers to about half of them. In mathematics, I managed to solve around 45 questions, although I admitted to guessing a lot.

After the exam, I anticipated a score of around 130. However, the answer key revealed a score of 119, shocking me. I realized that my COMEDK score was not high enough to secure a CSE seat in top colleges. Despite this, I maintained hope, challenged a few questions, and ended up with a final score of 120.

COMEDK 2019: A More Challenging Year

For the 2019 edition of COMEDK, I again participated and, before the release of the final answer key, I scored 121 marks. When the answer keys were released, I improved my score to 125. Although this was satisfying, I was concerned about the previous year's marks and ranks. The competition was stronger, and I could not be sure of a good rank.

Simultaneous Exams and Distractions

On the day of the COMEDK result, I had to write the JEE Advanced exam. I completed the JEE Advanced Paper 1 and then checked my COMEDK score, which was 1776. My emotions were mixed; I was not overly happy, but I was also not sad.

PES University and Other Results

Almost immediately after the COMEDK result, the PES University Engineering Entrance Examination (PESU EEE) results were announced. I scored a remarkable 317 in PESU EEE, which put me on cloud nine. Following that, the KCET results were released, and I scored a rank of 1789.

Final Outcome and Reflection

The JEE Advanced result came out a day later, and I was ranked 1156. Although I had only attempted around 145 questions due to insufficient time and a slow computer that was slower than a Samsung smartphone, I was content that I had done my best.

Looking back, my experiences with COMEDK in 2016 and 2019 highlight the importance of consistent preparation and the unpredictable nature of entrance examinations. While my ranks were not exceptional, they were satisfactory, and I learned from each experience.
