My Journey from NEET Trauma to Government Medical College Admission

From NEET Trauma to Government Medical College Admission

After two years of rigorous preparation and disappointment, I had given up on my aspirations for government medical colleges. However, to my great surprise, I was allotted a seat at Deben Mahata Government Medical College and Hospital in Purulia during the state counseling in Round-1 on September 3, 2024. This district hospital in Purulia, 177km from my home, not only provided me with a seat but also a renewed hope.

The visit to the college on September 4, 2024, was a delightful experience. The academic campus was well-maintained and clean, albeit with a small drawback that the campus was 8km away from the main town and railway station. The academic building, superspeciality hospital, auditorium, and the Damodar River Bridge photos speak volumes about the college's infrastructure and environment.

The Road to Admission

With only 10 days left before leaving for college, a sense of anticipation mixed with excitement fills the air. My journey to admission was far from smooth. After the traumatizing NEET 2024, where many deserving aspirants were left disappointed, I decided to focus on NEET 2025. Despite the challenging circumstances, my hard work overpowered my bad luck, leading to this unexpected turn of events.

Academic Environment and Facilities

The academic building, a symbol of the college's commitment to quality education, is undoubtedly one of the highlights. The superspeciality hospital showcases the college's forward-thinking approach, preparing students to serve the community in various specialized fields. Besides, the auditorium and the Damodar River Bridge images offer intriguing glimpses into the college's surroundings and the beauty of the region.

Reflections and Future Prospects

It is critical to reflect on the challenges and successes of my journey. My actual marks, 685, missed the 5 marks deduction due to an OMR dot error, which would have made my score 690. Despite scoring 685 and featuring a rank of 5371EWS, the hardworking 620-650 range aspirants were left shattered due to rank inflation. Thus, I secured a seat at PMCH Patna, my state's best college, but my dreams of attending AIIMS, KGMU, or BHU remained unfulfilled.

While the education system has faced criticism, this journey has taught me valuable lessons. The road to achievement is fraught with challenges, but perseverance and determination can overcome setbacks. Hope is restored as I embark on this new chapter, filled with the promise of new experiences and opportunities.

Fun Fact: I took admission in the Aakash Institute for NEET 2025 for only 15K for one year of classroom training. I have requested a refund, reaffirming that each of us has the potential and determination to persevere.
