My Experience with RIE CEE 2019 and Tips for Success

My journey with RIE CEE 2019 was a mix of unexpected success and nervous anticipation. Upon receiving a call from the principal of RIE Mysore, I was reminded that I had taken the entrance exam, and his inquiry led me to reflect on my experience and preparation. My score of 116.5 out of 160 might have seemed satisfactory, but considering I did not prepare at all, it was actually quite good. This article will share my experience in detail and offer tips for those planning to take RIE CEE in the future.

A Bothering Call and Unexpected Success

Earlier last week, I received a call from the principal of RIE Mysore, prompting me to realize that I had taken the RIE CEE exam. When he asked about my plans to join, I hesitated. If I had heard from him earlier, I might have accepted, but I had already decided to repeat for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). My score of 116.5 out of 160 might not impress top scorers, but considering my lack of preparation, it was a pleasant surprise. I went to the exam without knowing the exam format or the topics involved. However, my score of 66.8 and my category-wise state rank of 40 indicate that I could still excel without thorough preparation.

The Exam Experience and Negative Marking

When I encountered the results, I reflected on why I did not perform well. The main issue was silly mistakes and the harsh negative marking. The overall score was 66.8, and I was 40th in my category. I had never anticipated the difficulty level of the questions; the competition seemed formidable. Getting selected in RIE CEE requires a significant amount of preparation and confidence, which can only be gained through extensive preparation.

Advice for Aspiring Students

For those thinking of taking RIE CEE in 2020, it is crucial to prepare adequately. One or two months of preparation are insufficient; you need to work hard for a prolonged period. The exam comprises 80 questions: 20 from language proficiency, 30 from teaching aptitude, and 30 from reasoning ability. Negative marking is severe, with 2 marks for each correct answer and -0.5 marks for each wrong one. Therefore, it is essential to attempt questions with caution.

My Personal Insights

Personally, I did not prepare for the exam. I simply downloaded the admit card, reached the venue, and sat for the exam. There were around 200-300 candidates, and I was initially nervous. However, the questions were easy, and I finished the paper in 50 minutes. I spent the remaining 70 minutes checking and rechecking my answers. Despite the ease of the questions, my anxiety increased due to my dismal 12th board percentage of 83.8. I searched the answers and found that two of my questions were incorrect. The final CEE scores were calculated by giving 60 weightage to the entrance score and 40 to the 12th board percentage.

For BSc BEd, my overall rank was 13, state rank 11, and the category-wise state rank was 4. For BA BEd, my overall rank was 8, state rank 5, and the category-wise state rank was 1. Despite the slightly lower scores, these rankings provided a boost and increased my faith in God.

Conclusion

My experience with RIE CEE 2019 was a learning curve. It highlighted the importance of preparation and the impact of negative marking. I hope my experience and tips help others prepare better for the RIE CEE exam. If you are planning to take this exam in the future, remember to start your preparation early and with a focused mindset.
