How Was My JEE Main 2020 Exam Compared to Previous Years?
I recently took the JEE Main exam on January 9th, Shift 1. To my surprise, the paper turned out to be extremely easy, which is quite different from the challenges I faced in previous years. This experience has inspired me to share my techniques and strategies for excelling in the JEE Main exam.
My Strategy and Experience
I followed my usual strategy of attempting C-M-P (Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics) and managed quite well. My strengths lie in Physics and Mathematics, while I find Chemistry particularly challenging due to the need for memorization. However, I have a special notebook where I jot down innovative methods and faster approaches to solving problems in both Mathematics and Physics. This is the key to my dedication to these subjects!
Performance Breakdown
My scores were as follows: 22 out of 25 in Physics, 21 out of 25 in Chemistry, and 24 out of 25 in Mathematics. I managed to complete the entire paper with 39 minutes left on the clock! Surprisingly, I left unanswered questions that were purely memory-based, such as the structure of histamine, which I couldn't recall. Even though I was confident during the exam, the tension around me made me relaxed and happy, which was an unexpected feeling for such a crucial exam.
Lessons Learned
Past experiences with the JEE Main have taught me valuable lessons. For instance, in 2019, I found the paper to be quite tough, and my lack of preparation and panic affected my performance. This year, despite the easy paper, I made several silly mistakes due to rushing through my responses. To avoid similar issues, I advise every JEE aspirant to thoroughly check their answers after completing the paper instead of enjoying the remaining time.
Subsequent Attempts and Outcomes
Despite not scoring in my desired range, I remain optimistic and believe that I can achieve a 100 percentile in the next attempt. Unfortunately, due to a lack of focus and time management, I scored 99.82 percentile in September and ranked around 2100. The JEE Advanced results mirrored a similar trend, with a rank in the 2300s, which indicates the importance of consistent practice and strategic preparation.
Journey to IIT Patna, CSE
Currently, I am accepting my placement at IIT Patna for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program. While my rank may be lower than expected, I know that I can perform better in future attempts. It's a bittersweet moment, but I am committed to making the most of the opportunities available.
Key Takeaways
Strategies: Focus on your strengths, use innovative approaches, and maintain a positive mindset. Preparation: Regular practice and thorough review of concepts are crucial for better performance. Mental State: Stay composed during the exam, avoid panic, and manage time effectively. My experience this year has been a valuable learning opportunity, and I hope to pass on these insights to other JEE aspirants.
