Homeschooling: A Safeguard for My Childrens Education and Well-being

Homeschooling: A Safeguard for My Children's Education and Well-being

As a mother and a paramedic, one of the most important decisions I've made for my children's education and well-being is homeschooling. This choice was not made lightly, but out of a desire to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for my kids.

Why Homeschooling?

My kids haven't always been homeschooled. My oldest, Atticus, who is now 16, was in a critical fight in the 6th grade. The aftermath of this fight was a matter of bullying, physical harm, and a lack of proper response from the school authorities, which left me with no choice but to homeschool my children.

The Incident

During a fight that started over something minor, Atticus ended up getting hit in the face by another student, resulting in a bleeding nose and bruising. Despite how serious the incident was, the school's response was inadequate. Not only did they refuse to let Atticus go to the school nurse, but they also had the audacity to claim, "boys will be boys," when faced with the need for punishment against the student who initiated the fight.

My son reported the incident multiple times, and despite the reports, there was no action taken. This lack of accountability and action was not just a minor inconvenience; it was a serious failure in ensuring the safety and well-being of my child. The school was unwilling to address the issues head-on and offered no solutions beyond a dismissive, “boys will be boys” excuse.

Pulling the Children from School

After this incident, I realized that my children were in an environment where they were not safe and unable to get help if they needed it. I decided to take them both out of public school and enroll them in homeschool programs. This decision was reinforced by numerous other issues I observed, such as: Confrontations and bullying that went unaddressed Teachers attempting to persuade students into identifying with gender or sexual orientations they didn't want to be Teacher-led discussions about sensitive topics like sex with young kids Religious or political beliefs being shamed by teachers and other students Unrealistic activities and requirements, such as daily walks and litter boxes for bathroom breaks

Homeschooling Our Children

Since homeschooling, my kids have thrived in an environment where they are safe and happy. They have private teachers, friends through their work and social activities, and a proper education. They are advanced in their studies and have great social skills. Here are some key aspects of our homeschooling journey:

Safety and Supervision: Our house, which is like a heavily guarded fortress, ensures that my kids are always safe and secure. I know who comes in and out, and there's no risk of bullying or compromising their safety during school hours. Social Skills and Friendships: My kids still have many friends. My son has a lot of friends through his work, and my daughter has friends she sees often. This helps them develop strong social skills and maintain meaningful friendships outside the classroom. Advanced Education: They are advanced in their studies and receive a proper education, which is tailored to their needs and abilities. This allows them to excel and stay engaged in their studies. Happiness and Contentment: They are happy and rarely complain about homeschooling. They love their school and enjoy their educational journey, which is more fulfilling than traditional schooling. Trust and Responsibility: My kids do not sit idle; they are expected to work and contribute to maintaining our household. They understand the importance of responsibility and accountability.

Trust in Nannies and Guardians

We also have two nannies who take care of our younger children when we are unable to be present. We trust them implicitly and have developed strong connections. We make sure our children are with people we know and trust, which is a crucial part of our homeschooling approach.

Conclusion

I do not regret pulling my kids out of school. They are happier, receive a proper education, and develop great social skills. The decision to homeschool has given me the peace of mind to know who is teaching my children and what they are teaching, ensuring that they are in the best possible environment for their growth and development. My kids are happy. That's what matters to us.
