Have Latter-day Saints Realized That Joseph Smith Lied About Moroni?

Many have seen through the lies and left. Nothing in the Mormon religion aligns with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

What Did Joseph Smith Really Say About Moroni?

Lied about what exactly Moroni was an ancient prophet and he did appear to Joseph. Just because you weren’t aware of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The realization about the account of Moroni goes beyond the Latter-day Saints. Pomeroy Tucker and Willard Chase, who have no sympathy for the Mormon movement, have published accounts of hearing the angel Moroni story in 1827 before it was published after 1830. Joseph Smith first mentions the 1823 account of the angel Moroni in a 1832 journal entry, critics claim that such a late mention of the account is proof that the story was concocted after the publication of the Book of Mormon in 1830.

Historical Evidence and Criticisms

Whether Joseph Smith “lied” about the account of the angel Moroni cannot be determined by the historical record. However, many critics claim the story was created after the 1830 publication. The story that was talked about in the Palmyra, New York neighborhood rumor mill in the year 1827 gives support that public knowledge of the account preceded the publication of the Book of Mormon by three years. This adds a layer of authenticity to the narrative.

Personal Beliefs and Credibility

Firstly, we need to establish whether or not the implied negative in the question about Moroni is true in the first place. I personally don’t believe it to be a correct statement that Moroni wasn’t real and was made up by Joseph Smith to assist his narrative of being visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ who directed him via angelic messenger to translate an ancient record that was presumably scripture. But even though I believe everything Joseph Smith said about Moroni to be true, that doesn’t mean I can convince anyone else. The only way to discover whether this is true or not for yourself is to read the book that Moroni presumably led Joseph Smith to.

However, the true purpose of all of this was to further the light and understanding mankind could receive in regards to Jesus Christ as our one true Lord and Savior. The Book of Mormon is not meant to function as a historical record or a chronicling of specific individuals that lived in the Americas 2,000 years ago. The true purpose of the book is to testify of Jesus Christ to further His message of hope, redemption, and joy.

Conclusion

The real question is not about historical authenticity but about faith and understanding. Is the message of Jesus Christ, as presented in the Book of Mormon, a valid guide for humanity? Only you can answer that for yourself. Read the book and decide for yourself. The book will guide you towards understanding and faith in Jesus Christ.
