Forgiving Ourselves: Moving On From Regrets and Negative Thoughts

"There's a common misconception that moving on from regrets and negative thoughts means forgetting the past or excusing our mistakes. However, the journey to forgiveness and positivity begins within ourselves. Ask yourself, would you forgive your best friend for a mistake, and why not do the same for you? Regret is a part of being human—it is through our mistakes and potential regrets that we grow and learn. Allow these lessons to propel you forward, not haunt you with negative energy." "

Occupying Your Mind for Positive Growth

To move past regrets, it’s crucial to engage in activities that occupy your mind. Take up a new hobby, start a project, or engage in meaningful conversations. We often dwell on our past, but you can think of it as a “moving eviction notice” on those negative thoughts. Allow yourself a moment to reflect, but then focus on the present and your goals, rather than being stuck in the past.

A Battle of Transformation

The path to a positive mindset is not an easy one. It requires years of dedicated effort, positive affirmations, and continuous practice in rejecting negative thoughts. It’s a challenge, a battle of your life, as you work on changing a fundamental part of your personality. Though it feels like an uphill battle, it is possible. Rarely does negativity take over your life, but it is a common struggle we all face. It’s important to remember that it can be done!

Partnership with Past and Future Growth

It’s easy to get stuck on past relationships or mistakes. Instead of partnering with your past challenges, learn from them and move forward. For instance, I had a relationship that taught me valuable lessons but led to its own ending. Instead of bringing it up in future relationships, I chose to let it go and move on. I married about a year and a half later, with no regrets about the past relationship. It’s vital to learn from your past and find support in friendships to help you move forward constructively.

The Power of Radical Forgiveness

To truly move on, you must practice radical forgiveness. Books such as A Course in Miracles can be a profound resource for learning radical forgiveness.
