Farts, Farting Games, and Farting Contests: A Childhood Memory

Farts, Farting Games, and Farting Contests: A Childhood Memory

Lol.. your mum. What kind of question is that? Everyone farts. Enjoy the fart. Celebrate the fart. Make a game of the fart!

My parents never farted around me, at least not out loud. I suspected they hurled a few SBDs (Silent But Deadly) our way, but could never prove it. My mother swears that she didn’t even know what the word ‘fart’ meant until she was a teenager, and somehow, I believe it.

Discovering the Fart

When I was 13, and my younger brother was 12, I was in awe of him because he was able to fart at will with every one of his footfalls on the stairs – 14 stairs, 14 farts. I remember the joy I had of being able to use my hand under my armpit to produce fake farting sounds. My Dad taught me this trick, and I spent many hours using it over the years. Funny though, I don’t recall Dad ever farting in front of me.

Just about three weeks ago, I remembered the old armpit farting trick and gave it a try whilst sitting at my desk at work. Sadly, I am no longer able to make that sound. I was dismayed. But, I won’t give up; I am confident that I can resurrect that old skill.

Farting at Car Shows

I went to a lot of car shows with my dad as I was growing up. We had a rule that went something like: ‘No farting in the car, usually Bernie his 72 VW, unless the windows are open.’ He broke this rule often. Though the smell was horrible, the memories are hilarious.

Farting Contests with My Mom

My mom and I would have farting contests with each other. It was much more fun than it sounds. The competitions often involved using fake fart sounds or pretending to flatulate to outdo each other. These contests brought us closer and helped us bond, even during mundane moments of daily life.

Farting, while often a source of embarrassment, can also be a shared experience that brings families closer. Whether it's a funny rule about not farting in the car or a mother-daughter “farting contest,” these memories provide a lighthearted glimpse into the unique bond between family members.
