Exploring Life Paths: What I Might Be Today If Not a Medical Student
Life often takes unexpected turns, and if I weren't a medical student today, I might have ended up in very different professions. Reflecting on my younger years and the aspirations I had, it's fascinating to explore how my life would have unfolded if those dreams hadn't been fulfilled.
Possibilities of Other Careers
Throughout my journey, I've considered many different career paths. Here are some scenarios:
Photographer
First, imagine a world where my passion for photography took the lead over my medical dreams. I would be a professional photographer, traveling to different places and capturing the essence of the world through my lens. My days would be filled with interacting with diverse people and documenting news, events, or simply the beauty of life. The adventure and the flexibility of this career would have been incredibly exciting. In a worst-case scenario, if things didn't work out, I might have turned to a rickshaw pulling job due to financial constraints. However, I am deeply glad for my path towards becoming a doctor, as the career has blossomed into a fulfilling and rewarding journey that includes my passion for photography as well.

Cricketer
Before my decision to pursue MBBS, cricket was a dream career. I had played in some state-level tournaments, which brought me closer to a professional cricket career. If things hadn't aligne halfway through, I could have become a cricketer. The path would have entailed rigorous training, participation in national and international competitions, and the possibility of making a name for myself in the cricketing world. This would have been a life filled with excitement, dedication, and the thrill of the game.

Journalist
Another career I considered was that of a journalist. As I undertook my secondary education, my interests lay in the field of journalism. I loved the idea of travel, interacting with people, and uncovering the realities behind the scenes. However, the changes in the career dynamics made it less appealing. Even a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in political science or history from Delhi University seemed like a viable alternative. But now, I am enjoying my current journey as a medical student and photographer, and I wouldn't want to negate those experiences for any other profession.

WWE Wrestler
As a child, my dream was to become a WWE wrestler. It seems like a hilarious and somewhat absurd idea now, but during that time, I was engrossed in the excitement and the adrenaline rush associated with such a career. It's worth a chuckle to remember this dream, but it's also indicative of the diverse interests that shape our lives and dreams.

Engineer
Right before opting for MBBS, I was pursuing a Bachelor of Technology () in instrumentation and control engineering at NSIT, New Delhi. This decision was based on my interest in coding and engineering. Had I stayed in this field, I might have opted for a career as a programmer in a company. Alternatively, I could have continued in my core discipline, developing a deep interest in instrumentation and electronics. However, my passion for medicine led me to a different path, and I am content with where I stand today.

Dental Student
Interestingly, I currently study at a dental college, an option that never crossed my mind during the medical entrance preparation phase. However, I am content and satisfied with my choice. If you are a medical student grappling with anxiety and frustration over what if I am not a doctor, know that there are many other options. Life is easy for those who move on and accept things, while it is challenging for those who don't. While I am not trying to demotivate you, I am sharing my experience to help you see that if you have a dream career like medicine, you can still achieve it with hard work and determination. However, if things don't work out, life has other surprises for you.
