Comparison of JEE Main 2015 vs 2016: A Detailed Analysis of Paper Patterns and Subject-wise Difficulty Levels

Do you remember the JEE Main 2016? Was it really tougher compared to the previous year? Let’s break down the comparison and analyze the differences between these two years.

Student Feedback on JEE Main 2016 vs 2015

Many students have expressed their views on the difficulty levels of JEE Main 2016 compared to 2015. One student, who took the mock test of JEE Main 2015 and scored around 250, recorded a total of just 115 in JEE Main 2016. The chemistry section was hardest with difficult and irrelevant questions.

The math questions were described as lengthier than the previous year, while physics was slightly easier according to some sources. Overall, scores have seen a decrease, indicating that JEE Main 2016 was indeed tougher than 2015.

Question Pattern

The question pattern for JEE Main is as follows:

S 1Physics30 2Chemistry30 3Math30

The distribution of questions from different classes is also noteworthy:

Physics: 43 from Class XI and 57 from Class XII Chemistry: 43 from Class XI and 57 from Class XII Mathematics: 57 from Class XI and 43 from Class XII

Subject-wise Analysis

Physics

According to experts, the overall difficulty level of Physics has been termed moderate to tough. Some of the difficult topics included Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM), Modern Physics, Electrostatics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Work Power and Energy, and more. Experts mentioned that maximum questions were from Mechanics. The distribution of questions from Class XI and XII was 43 and 57 respectively.

Chemistry

Chemistry was easier compared to 2015, but the difficulty level was similar to the previous year. Physical Chemistry formed 40% of the total questions, Inorganic Chemistry contributed 33%, and Organic Chemistry 27%. The distribution of questions from Class XI and XII was 43 and 57 respectively.

Mathematics

The difficulty level of Mathematics has been marked as moderate to tough. Compared to Physics, Mathematics questions were easier. According to Super 30’s Anand Kumar, questions were almost equally divided with all topics uniformly covered. However, Mathematics had fewer questions from Algebra and Calculus, more from Coordinate Geometry. The distribution of questions from Class XI and Class XII were 57 and 43 respectively, in line with the pattern of the other two subjects.

Conclusion

Overall, JEE Main 2016 presented a different challenge. The chemistry section saw many irrelevant and difficult questions, while physics was the toughest subject according to the experts. The mathematics section, however, was slightly easier compared to physics. These differences in subject difficulty levels and the overall pattern have made many students feel the 2016 paper tougher than the previous year.
