Choosing BAMS: A Journey with No Regrets

Choosing BAMS: A Journey with No Regrets

As someone who has been through both BTech and currently enrolled in MBBS, I can confidently say that I have no regrets. In fact, I thank my past self for making the difficult decision to switch from BTech to MBBS. My experience thus far has been transformative and filled with a sense of purpose.

A Curriculum Diverted from My Passion

During my time in BTech, I was enrolled in CSE at IIEST, a program with a curriculum that seemed to bear little relation to my passion for computing. We studied a variety of subjects like Chemistry Engineering, Physics, EVS, and even had to complete English and Physics lab - a daunting task of performing basic class 12 experiments. While studying BTech, I had the anxiety of wondering if I would remain jobless in the future. This fear diminished as I transitioned to MBBS.

The Dilemma: Pay and Purpose

While the medical field has its drawbacks, such as lower pay during the initial phase and doctors getting beaten, I believe the satisfaction and purpose that MBBS offers far outweigh these negatives. If given the choice between a top IIT and MBBS, I would unequivocally choose the medical route. That includes the countless late nights, stress, and sacrifices involved. If offered a return to my BTech days or a top IIT, the answer would be clear.

Yes, the medical line has its unique challenges, but the reward of being a doctor and positively impacting lives makes every sacrifice worthwhile. The mental satisfaction that comes from knowing I won’t be jobless in the future is a profound relief. This journey is a memorable one with no regrets whatsoever.

The Reality of MBBS: A New Normal

So, to anyone questioning the decision to pursue MBBS, here's a quote to consider: 'Crying in MBBS is still better than crying for MBBS.' The harsh reality of the medical school journey is something that everyone traverses. The quote captures the sense of relief one feels after enduring the challenging years. However, it's important to note that the journey is not without its struggles. Many students, myself included, find that they must sacrifice time for hobbies and personal relationships to meet the academic demands. A typical day might include rigorous studies, exhausting shifts at the hospital, and barely any time left for personal interests.

The Evolution of a Student

My journey in school began as an average student, but the decision to pursue MBBS led to a dramatic shift in my identity. Unlike the bookworms who cram for exams, I developed a genuine love for reading but found it challenging to balance this with the intense demands of medical school. The challenges you face in medical school are unique and profound. There might be times when you feel like you are losing your way, but the dedication and hard work make every step worthwhile.

Conclusion: Stay Grounded, Support Others

My advice to anyone considering the path of MBBS is to stay grounded and not look down on others who are struggling. Remember that everyone faces their own unique set of challenges. The key is to find balance and support from your peers and mentors. While the journey might be tough, the rewards are immeasurable. Stay motivated, and strive to be the best version of yourself.
