Can I Pray Fajr and Duhr After School Due to School Commitments?
It is understandable that students might sometimes miss the Fajr and or Duhr prayers because of school commitments. However, it is important to note that missing these prayers is priceless.
Importance of Regular Prayer
Prayer is a fundamental aspect of Islam, and regularly missing prayers is not condoned. If you have even a brief amount of free time during those hours, we strongly suggest that you pray the mandatory (Fard) prayers. It is essential to try and pray your salat on time, finding a quiet and clean place to offer your prayers before continuing with your work.
However, it is important to realize that if you do miss a prayer accidentally, it is better to pray it after school has ended, and to repent for missing it.
Prize of On-Time Prayer
Islam imposes the obligation to pray the prescribed number of times (3 or 5 times). Numerous Hadiths support the practice of praying 3 or 5 times daily, but there is no evidence of combining the Fajr and Duhr prayers in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
Prophet’s Teachings on Prayer Times
According to the authentic narrations of Prophet Muhammad, the times for the prayers are as follows:
Fajr: Until the first part of the sun appears. Zuhr (Duhr): Until Asr comes. Asr: Until the sun turns yellow. Maghrib: Until the twilight has disappeared. Isha: Until half of the night has passed. It is noteworthy that the Prophet Muhammad never combined the Fajr prayer with the Duhr prayer, or any other prayer for that matter.
Strategies for On-Time Prayers
The best strategy is to wake up 10–15 minutes before your usual wake-up time to prepare for school and pray the Fajr prayer on time. The Fajr prayer can be completed in approximately 10 minutes if recited slowly with focus and extended recitation, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. If you feel you do not have this much time, you can pray the two mandatory parts of the Fajr prayer, which will take around 5 minutes.
If you miss the Duhr prayer due to school, you can pray it after school or combine it with the Asr prayer, thus ensuring you do not miss the obligatory prayer. This approach helps you avoid the sinning of leaving the obligatory prayer and not praying it on time.
Quest for Salvation through Regular Prayer
Islam is a religion of nature, prioritizing simplicity and ease. Allah has promised that He will not burden a soul with more than it can bear. By focusing on the routine of daily life, you will see this promise in action.
May Allah help you to pray the daily obligatory prayers on time and assist you in prioritizing them in your daily routine. Ameen!
