A Day in the Life of a Freshman at Orono High School

Discover what a typical school day looks like for a freshman at Orono High School. Here's a detailed account of a regular day in the life of a student, including activities, subjects, and interactions as shared by one of our students.

Start of the Morning

Every morning, I wake up early and head to Orono High School. After attending my morning classes, I usually begin my day at the cafeteria for breakfast. This is my favorite part of the day, as I enjoy a hearty meal while listening to music, setting the tone for the day ahead.

Morning Routine and Activities

After breakfast, I go to the library and set up my laptop and headphones. I begin by putting down my coat and eating breakfast at my assigned desk. This routine brings me comfort, as it is familiar and consistent. At 7:42 AM, my friend Logan joins me, and we begin our morning sessions by communicating through Google Docs.

Throughout the day, there are several key activities:

Block 1: Morning Bell and English Class

At 7:50 AM, the morning bell rings, signaling the start of Block 1, which is English class. In the morning, we dedicate 10 minutes to creative writing. This is followed by finishing up our projects and taking notes before spending a little time discussing the day's plans with classmates.

Block 2: Study Hall

After English, I move to Block 2, which is Study Hall. Here, I hang around and catch up with friends, guided by our teacher's direction. This is a flexible period during which we can work on assignments or study together.

Block 3: Advisory and Algebra

In Block 3, I attend Advisory, where we complete a quick quiz on an earlier activity about online relationships. Then, I proceed to Block 3, where I have Algebra. Today, the test focuses on equation solution sets. After taking the test, we go over previous assignments, which serve as our notes and references.

Block 4: Earth/Physical Science

Block 4 is dedicated to Earth/Physical Science, taught by Mr. Owens. This block provides a great opportunity for hands-on learning, such as a lesson on watersheds. In the later part of the day, we take a break to watch an episode of River Monsters. This class alternates rooms with other groups for variety.

Lunch and Afternoon Activities

After the final class, it's time for lunch. Today, we have the choice of meat or cheese pizza. I opt for the meat pizza, and we also have leftovers of the broccoli cheddar soup and ham sandwich from the previous day. After eating, I join my friends in Google Docs again, spending some more fun time chatting and collaborating.

After lunch, there's some more free time to hang around and get back to work or rest. This afternoon was free, and I had a practice with my Indoor Track team at the UMaine Fieldhouse. However, I chose not to attend, as I wanted to use the day off to enjoy Fridays.
